Wando-gun Signs Agreement for International Resort and Healing Complex Development and Specialty Product Export

2nd Jangbogo Hansang Awardees Promote Wando's Value at Global Competition

Agreed on $10M International Resort & Healing Complex, $1.9M Specialty Product Exports

Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 10th that it participated in the 2nd Jangbogo Hansang Awardees World Conference held in Vienna, Austria from the 31st of last month to the 3rd, achieving the signing of business agreements for the ‘International Recreation and Healing Complex Development’ and ‘Specialty Products Export.’

The conference was hosted by the Jangbogo Hansang Awardees Association, with over 70 attendees including Shin Woo-cheol, Wando County Governor; Heo Gung-hee, Chairman of Wando County Council; Kim Jeom-bae, Chairman of the Jangbogo Hansang Awardees Association; Kim Deok-ryong, Chairman of the Jangbogo Global Foundation; Park Jong-beom, President of the World Korean Trade Association; past Jangbogo Hansang awardees; and export companies from Wando-gun.

Governor Shin Woo-cheol delivered a special lecture under the theme ‘Healing Island, Wando,’ actively expressing Wando’s potential and development possibilities by introducing the marine healing project, the first of its kind in Korea utilizing clean seas and marine resources, the establishment of the National Warm-Temperate Forest Arboretum, the construction of the National Marine Fisheries Museum, and the excellence of local specialty products.

In particular, an investment briefing session was held for the creation of the ‘International Recreation and Healing Complex,’ resulting in the signing of a memorandum of understanding to attract an investment of 10 million USD with the Jangbogo Hansang Awardees Association.

The ‘International Recreation and Healing Complex,’ to be developed in the Wando-eup area, is planned to include a golf theme park, resort and hotel facilities, healing gardens, a beauty center, and specialty product sales outlets.

Additionally, the county held a ‘Specialty Products Export Consultation Meeting,’ conducting 55 export consultations and signing agreements to export specialty products such as abalone, seaweed, and seaweed noodles worth approximately 1.9 million USD to the Netherlands, Austria, and Bulgaria.

The specialty products export consultation meeting was hosted by Wando-gun and organized by the Jeollanam-do Small and Medium Enterprise Job and Economy Promotion Agency, with participation from seven companies based in Wando-gun, including Wando Mom English Cooperative Corporation, Haecheongjeong Co., Ltd., and Badamyeongga.

At the event, 22 specialty products including abalone, seaweed, yuzu, and loquat were exhibited, and attendees enjoyed tasting events featuring boneless abalone, abalone bread, abalone porridge, dried abalone slices, processed maesaengi seaweed products, gim (seaweed), seaweed noodles, and yuzu beverages, receiving great acclaim.

Governor Shin Woo-cheol stated, “Through this agreement, we will accelerate the development of the International Recreation and Healing Complex so that Wando can leap forward as an international marine healing hub and resort destination. Having confirmed the high interest of European buyers in Wando’s specialty products through the export consultation meeting, we will strive to expand export routes to Europe.”

Meanwhile, the ‘Jangbogo Hansang’ award recognizes overseas Korean businesspeople (Hansang) who inherit the pioneering spirit of Admiral Jang Bogo and contribute to the expansion of economic and cultural territories and the development of Korean communities abroad by certifying them as 21st-century Jang Bogo ambassadors.

Up to last year, 43 recipients from 17 countries have been awarded, and the world conference is held to share global entrepreneurial spirit and build a business network platform with the awardees.
