Scheduled to be applied to all bhc Chicken stores by the end of June
Characteristics requiring resistance to water and oil... Participation from planning stage
Boldly excluding bhc's signature yellow design
bhc Group is strengthening its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management by introducing eco-friendly packaging.
bhc Chicken announced on the 10th that it will replace all chicken boxes, side menu packaging boxes, and trays with eco-friendly paper packaging material called "Green Shield." The company plans to complete the transition in all stores nationwide by the end of this month through a phased introduction by each store.
bhc Chicken collaborated with Hankuk Paper to directly participate from the packaging planning stage and produced chicken boxes reflecting eco-friendly values. The Green Shield introduced by bhc Chicken is an eco-friendly paper packaging material developed by the domestic paper specialist company Hankuk Paper. It is not coated with plastic (PE/PP), biodegrades 94.9% within three months underground, and is recyclable.
It has also obtained recycling certification (UL ECVP 2485) and biodegradability certification (OK Compost Industrial) in the United States and Europe, which have strict environmental standards. Domestically, it has acquired certifications such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and eco-label certification (EL606), verifying it as a nature-friendly, non-toxic, and safe food packaging material.
Notably, bhc Chicken boldly removed the yellow background design symbolizing the brand to minimize unnecessary ink usage. Logos and other prints were made using eco-friendly soy ink, and an "eco perforation line" with double dotted cut lines around the sticker attached to the box was applied to enhance recyclability by allowing consumers to easily separate the sticker.
Additionally, considering the characteristics of chicken boxes that must be resistant to water and oil, oil and water resistance were significantly enhanced. The bhc eco-friendly chicken box is designed to resist dampness without any chemical coating and has air holes on the box surface to maintain the crispiness of the chicken for a long time. Moreover, through multiple usability evaluations, durability and functionality were improved to prevent the box shape from collapsing easily.
A bhc representative said, "As awareness of the climate crisis and environmental protection has increased recently, we introduced eco-friendly packaging that combines both durability and oil and water resistance to meet consumers' demand for environmentally friendly value consumption. We will continue to make our best efforts to contribute to environmental protection and fulfill our social responsibilities as a leading company in the food service industry."
