Global Console New Release Battle... Domestic Game Companies Also Join In

Microsoft (MS) unveiled a large lineup of new games set to launch on the Xbox platform in the second half of this year. As domestic game companies such as Nexon and NCSoft also step up to challenge the global console game market, competition for market dominance is expected to heat up.

On the morning of the 10th, MS held the 'Xbox Game Showcase' and revealed key information about upcoming titles.

The first game revealed was Activision's latest installment in the 'Call of Duty' series, 'Black Ops 6.' This first-person shooter (FPS) is set during secret operations in the Gulf War and is scheduled for release on October 25. The trailer featured characters from the previous title 'Black Ops Cold War' engaging in gunfights and action scenes across various global locations.

id Software announced the latest entry in the 'DOOM' series, 'DOOM: The Dark Ages,' and stated that the game will be released in 2025.

MachineGames and Lucasfilm Games, who jointly developed the highly anticipated 'Indiana Jones: The Great Circle,' also revealed the first trailer and announced the game will launch within the year. The video vividly depicted the protagonist, modeled after Harrison Ford who played Indiana Jones in the original films, embarking on an adventure to find treasures while battling Nazi Germany and the Japanese army.

Blizzard announced that the new expansion for 'World of Warcraft,' titled 'Internal War,' will be released on August 27, followed by the first expansion for last year's 'Diablo 4,' called 'Vessel of Hatred,' launching on October 8.

Global Console New Release Battle... Domestic Game Companies Also Join In

Domestic game companies have also thrown down the gauntlet in the global console game market. On the 7th (local time), Nexon revealed the official release date for its new title 'First Descendant' at the 'Summer Game Fest (SGF) 2024' held in Los Angeles (LA), USA. The game will be simultaneously released globally on the 2nd of next month, supporting various platforms including PC, PlayStation, and Xbox Series.

First Descendant is a 'loot shooter' genre game emphasizing item collection. It combines cooperative shooting (CO-OP) that enhances the fun of action with sustainable role-playing game (RPG) play that expands user experience.

NCSoft also participated in the event's online showcase and presented a trailer for its new brawl-style action game 'Battlecrush.' Battlecrush is a game where players fight to be the last one standing amid shrinking terrain and enemies over time. An early access version will be released on the 27th in 100 countries worldwide, including Korea, North America, Europe, Asia, and Southeast Asia, on PC, Nintendo Switch, and Android·iOS platforms.
