Goal to Create 205 Jobs by 2026... Achievements of District-Specific Projects such as Intellectual Childcare Assistants and Social First Steps
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) is making every effort to expand social participation opportunities for people with disabilities and establish a foundation for independent living.
With the launch of the 8th elected administration, the district announced a pledge to increase jobs for people with disabilities by 5% annually until 2026, creating a total of 205 jobs, and reported that it is steadily fulfilling this commitment and progressing smoothly.
Starting with 165 jobs in 2022, 175 jobs were created in 2023, and as of June 2024, 179 jobs have been generated.
This year, the district has created a total of 179 jobs across various fields, considering the specific characteristics of different types of disabilities: ▲55 general jobs including full-time and part-time positions ▲65 welfare jobs ▲33 assistant jobs for developmental care workers ▲16 intellectual disability childcare assistant jobs ▲7 Social First Step jobs ▲3 workplace adaptation training jobs.
In particular, Dongjak-gu is the only autonomous district in Seoul to provide customized jobs by implementing ▲intellectual disability childcare assistant ▲Social First Step ▲workplace adaptation training for people with developmental disabilities.
The ‘Intellectual Disability Childcare Assistant’ role involves assisting childcare teachers by organizing childcare facility environments and guiding children during drop-off and pick-up at 15 district-run daycare centers.
‘Social First Step’ is a project designed to help people with developmental disabilities enter society by providing opportunities to work as baristas at local cafes, librarians at libraries, or to clean toys in kids’ cafes.
‘Workplace Adaptation Training for People with Developmental Disabilities’ helps participants adapt long-term to workplaces by engaging in short-term tasks such as document and mail shredding, product packaging, and environmental cleaning duties.
The district has invested a total budget of 9.5 billion KRW in this project up to this year and plans to secure a total of approximately 15 billion KRW by 2026 to continue the initiative.
