Construction of 'System Semiconductor Verification Support Center' in Pangyo... 23.4 Billion KRW Invested by 2028

Gyeonggi Province has been selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s ‘System Semiconductor Verification Support Center Construction’ project, securing 15 billion KRW in national funding.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 9th that from this year until 2028, it will invest a total of 23.4 billion KRW, including 15 billion KRW in national funds, to establish a verification support center at the Seongnam Global Convergence Center in the Second Pangyo Techno Valley to boost the relatively weak domestic system semiconductor industry.

Earlier, Gyeonggi Province participated in the public contest to establish a hub for supporting related companies as the importance of the system semiconductor industry, including artificial intelligence (AI) and future vehicles, has recently been highlighted.

From June to August, Gyeonggi Province will build the support center space and create an initial verification and design environment by the end of this year. It plans to equip the necessary facilities and complete the support center construction by 2025 to begin full-scale support for companies.

The verification support center will be responsible for ▲establishing a semiconductor design verification environment ▲building a design verification technology development system ▲supporting verification and commercialization.

Additionally, by linking with the existing System Semiconductor Design Support Center of the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, it will create a one-stop support platform from semiconductor chip design to commercialization, providing close support to related small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies.

Gyeonggi Province expects that once the support center is established, it will shorten development periods and reduce economic burdens by supporting commercialization of domestic small and mid-sized fabless (design-specialized) companies. In particular, it plans to offer additional benefits such as usage fee discounts to over 120 fabless companies located in Gyeonggi Province.

Kim Hyun-dae, Director of the Future Growth Industry Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, "With this selection, Gyeonggi Province has laid the foundation for supporting fabless companies by establishing the nation’s first system semiconductor design verification support equipment and research facilities." He added, "Gyeonggi Province will provide unwavering support to foster the fabless industry, the core of the future semiconductor industry."

Meanwhile, in June last year, Gyeonggi Province announced the ‘Pangyo Fabless Cluster Construction’ as a key task in the second year of the 8th local government administration and is promoting various projects such as infrastructure construction, workforce development, and company growth to support fabless companies.
