"A Hotel Entered the Department Store"... Shinsegae Department Store Opens 'House of Shinsegae'

Located on the border between the Gangnam branch and JW Marriott Hotel Seoul, House of Shinsegae spans a total of 7,273㎡ (2,200 pyeong) across three floors, featuring a food hall (dining area), fashion and beauty select shops, and luxury select shops. Shinsegae Department Store described it as a new-concept space created by combining the department store's content know-how with the service capabilities accumulated through JW Marriott Hotel Seoul, which is operated by its affiliate Central City.

On the 10th, the gourmet space extending from the basement level 1 to the ground floor will open first. It consists of a food hall housing 12 restaurants and a fine wine specialty section. All restaurants were selected as gourmet brands debuting for the first time in the distribution industry. Visitors can experience the second branch of 'Kim Susa,' a famous sushi restaurant in Gangnam opening after 38 years, and the first domestic store of 'Kikukawa,' an eel rice bowl specialty restaurant with four generations of history from Tokyo, Japan. Other tenants include 'Yoon Haeundae Galbi,' opened in New York in 2017 by the grandson of the Haeundae Amso Galbi restaurant in Busan, Shinsegae's directly managed 'Jaju Hansang,' and 'Miga Huoguo' (opening in July), which offers Chinese regional dishes with a Korean twist. Operating hours have also been extended to 10 p.m., two hours later than the department store's weekday closing time of 8 p.m.

The fine wine specialty section, 'Wine Cellar,' occupies 1,300㎡ (400 pyeong) on the first floor. It offers over 5,000 bottles of wine and whiskey categorized by region and type. Half of these are composed of premium wines. The premium space for VIPs houses rare wines and aged vintages, some of which are extremely scarce worldwide. Featured are prestigious wineries such as Giamoco Conterno from Barolo, Piedmont, Italy, and Liber Pater, which restores Bordeaux wines using traditional methods. Whiskey brands Macallan and Suntory will also have standalone stores.

The store includes private dining rooms where customers can enjoy purchased wines with food, and a learning lab for wine classes led by world-renowned producers. A service to procure rare wines from overseas and assist with customs clearance will also be introduced.

Shinsegae Department Store plans to open an additional floor in the second half of the year. This will include the Wunder Shop Mezzanine, a higher version of the luxury select shop Wunder Shop, and personal shopper rooms for VIP customers.

Park Joo-hyung, CEO of Shinsegae Department Store, said, "House of Shinsegae is the only luxury space showcasing the concentrated know-how of Shinsegae Department Store. Through innovation in space, content, and services that fulfill customers' hearts, we will present irreplaceable value and charm that only offline spaces can offer."
