94.7% of Gyeonggi Residents "Trust Gyeonggi Fire Department" Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters

It was found that 94% of Gyeonggi Province residents trust Gyeonggi Fire Services.

The Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 9th that, as a result of conducting a "Fire Safety Awareness Survey" targeting 4,774 residents of the province for seven days from April 15 to 21, during the "National Safety Day" week, 94.7% of respondents answered that they "trust" the fire services. This survey was conducted using Gyeonggi Province's online public opinion survey site, targeting residents aged 14 and older within the province.

Regarding the perception of fire safety, respondents felt safe from fires both in their residential areas and living spaces, with a higher sense of safety in residential areas (88.2%) compared to living spaces (83.3%).

The causes of fire anxiety in living spaces (multiple responses allowed) were ▲old houses (58%) ▲insufficient safety devices such as fire extinguishers (55.3%) ▲neglect in managing fire and evacuation facilities (41.1%) ▲lack of knowledge about actions to take during a fire (22%), in that order.

When asked about places of concern for fire occurrence among multi-use facilities, "underground parking lots and other parking facilities, electric vehicle charging stations" ranked highest at 38.6%. This was followed by "traditional markets" (33.2%) and "transportation facilities such as subways and railroads" (30.5%).

Additionally, when asked which areas should be prioritized to create a society safe from fires, respondents selected "strengthening safety inspections of fire facilities" (35.8%) and "expanding education and publicity to improve safety awareness" (26.6%).

Notably, 82.9% of respondents said they "know how to use a fire extinguisher," but the correct answer rate for a quiz on fire extinguisher usage was 42.4%, showing some discrepancy. Furthermore, while 71.9% had experience with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training, only 47.1% responded that they were confident in performing CPR themselves, which is less than half.

Jo Sun-ho, head of the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "Through the results of this survey, we concluded that fire safety inspections should be strengthened in parking facilities such as underground parking lots and electric vehicle charging stations, and education and publicity should be enhanced so that residents can respond quickly and accurately in crisis situations." He added, "We will promote publicity tailored to the characteristics of the demand for fire policies and systems that have low awareness among residents, thereby raising residents' safety awareness."
