1-2 Sessions Starting in July, 80 Participants Total (40 per Class) Accepted on a First-Come, First-Served Basis from June 10 to 24
Graduates Qualify to Run Local Walking Classes and Act as Community Health Ambassadors Promoting Healthy Habits
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gijae) announced that it will operate the ‘2024 Healthy City School’ to train 80 health leaders who will spread a culture of healthy living practices in the local community.
The ‘Healthy City School’ is a program that produces health leaders who contribute to improving residents’ health through specialized education in areas such as walking posture correction, basic exercise, and stress management. Utilizing Haenuri Town Art Hall, the program will run as a 4-week course starting in July, targeting a total of 80 participants in two sessions of 40 people each.
The curriculum consists of ▲health exercises to extend healthy lifespan ▲walking exercise prescription and basic posture ▲walking posture evaluation ▲stress coping methods through art activities ▲education on climate change and carbon neutrality ▲upcycling leather craft experience, among others.
Especially this year, based on improvement suggestions from last year’s participants, the program has reduced tedious theoretical classes and prepared a more dynamic, practice-oriented course.
Additionally, classes are scheduled from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, a time of high activity, to enhance participants’ time utilization and accessibility.
The first session of the Healthy City School will hold four special lectures every Tuesday starting July 2, and the second session will hold four special lectures every Thursday starting July 4.
Graduates will qualify to operate the ‘Our Neighborhood Walking Class.’ Through this class, walking courses within the district will be developed, and education on walking posture and the use of outdoor exercise equipment will be provided.
Moreover, they will be active as village health leaders and receive a modest activity allowance.
From June 10 to June 24, a total of 80 participants for the first and second sessions of the Healthy City School will be recruited on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents wishing to enroll can apply by phone or email to the Health Administration Division of Yangcheon Public Health Center. Lee Gijae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “The ‘2024 Healthy City School’ will be an important starting point that goes beyond a simple educational program to spread healthy lifestyle habits throughout the local community.” He added, “We will continue to focus on spreading a health culture that resonates with all generations and make every effort to create a healthy community.”
