The Chinese characters for Mistress Removal Specialist (小三勸退師) literally mean an expert (師) who persuades (勸退) the mistress (小三) to step back. In other words, it is a kind of consultant who persuades and excludes the spouse's affair partner to protect the family. Initially, this was a nickname given by Chinese media, but now the term Mistress Removal Specialist itself has become a proper noun for this type of family consulting profession.

China is officially a communist country, but it has a more dynamic society than any market economy country. Commercial centers like Shanghai sometimes appear even more capital-friendly than typical capitalist countries. However, China's income level has not yet reached that of advanced countries like the US or Europe. This means that even when serious family conflicts occur, there are not many households wealthy enough to afford divorce litigation.

On the other hand, the service fees for Mistress Removal Specialists are much cheaper than those of lawyers, and the time to reach an agreement is also much shorter. It is a Chinese-style compromise of the Anglo-American 'legal services.'

However, they claim that Mistress Removal Specialists offer a much better solution than actual divorce litigation. According to the official website of the Mistress Removal Specialist group, they emphasize, "We understand and handle the emotional issues of the victims better than lawyers do," and "Through appropriate measures, we can restore the marital relationship to normal. Every couple has moments when third-party intervention is necessary." In other words, they provide an alternative to avoid the often very painful divorce process.
