Korea Sport Stacking Association Holds 2nd National Team Selection for Asian Open Championship in Gwangju

The second national team selection event for sports stacking, which will participate in the 2024 WSSA Asian Open Championship (November 29 to December 1) held in Malaysia this November, will take place on the 8th at the Sangmu National Sports Center in Seo-gu, Gwangju.


Seo-gu, Gwangju (District Mayor: Kim Ikang) hosted an international sports stacking competition in 2023 at the Kim Daejung Convention Center, gathering 356 Asian athletes from 11 countries. After the first challenge competition (Seoul) and the second challenge in Seo-gu, Gwangju, the final rounds will be held at the Gimhae City Cultural and Sports Center in Gyeongnam and the Daedeok University Gymnasium in Daejeon. The national sports stacking team will select about 20 stackers divided into elementary, middle and high school, adult, and senior categories.


In this competition with 175 participants, Kim Sieun, who won the women's division at the first challenge (May 25, Seoul) and holds world records in 333, 363, and cycle events, and Park Minhyung (15 years old, Jangnae Middle School, Gyeonggi), the 2024 US World Championship women's division winner, will participate to challenge records. This season's women's Top 5 players, including Lee Jaein (Hogok Middle School, Gyeonggi), Jin Harang (Ilsan Middle School, Ulsan), and Shin Jua (Balan Elementary School, Gyeonggi), will also compete. In the men's division, Jo Hanseo (Daeshin High School, Daejeon), who placed second in the last men's competition, and Top 5 players Seo Wooju (Irinam Middle School, Gunsan), Jeong Taekhoon (Jeonbuk), and Joo Jisan (Bugoo Elementary School, Gyeongbuk) have declared their candidacy to join the national team.


Meanwhile, as the second national team selection is held in Gwangju, the mecca of sports stacking, many players from Gwangju and Jeonnam as well as special stackers (athletes with disabilities) are expected to participate and engage in fierce competition.


The Korea Sports Stacking Association will select the national team by combining individual overall records and competition records in the remaining selection events (challenges) on July 27 (Gimhae, Cultural and Sports Center) and August 10 (Daejeon, Daedeok University).


From October, the selection for the 2025 WSSA World Sports Stacking Championship in Switzerland (April 25-27, 2025) will also be conducted. Additionally, about 30 school sports club competitions are scheduled for 2024. Competitions such as the Jinju Education Office Cup on June 12, Yangsan Education Office Cup on June 19, Changnyeong Education Office Cup on June 22, and Cheonan Education Office Cup on June 29 will be held.
