Rookie Lawmakers of Four Opposition Parties: "Difficulty in Committee Formation Due to People Power Party's Stubbornness... We Want to Work"

On the 7th, first-term lawmakers from the four opposition parties demanded the prompt completion of the National Assembly's organizational structure in accordance with the National Assembly Act to create a "working National Assembly."

Yoon Jong-gun of the Democratic Party, Jeong Chun-saeng of the Party for National Innovation, Jeong Hye-kyung of the Progressive Party, and Han Chang-min of the Social Democratic Party held a press conference at the National Assembly that morning, stating, "We first-term lawmakers from the four opposition parties want to work."

They said, "We want to complete the organizational structure as soon as possible, receive committee assignments, and work hard," adding, "There has been no progress in the organizational structure negotiations. Although today is the day stipulated by the National Assembly Act for electing committee chairpersons, the Assembly is violating the law, which is utterly disheartening."

They continued, "The biggest reason the organizational structure negotiations have reached this deadlock is the obstinacy of the ruling party, the People Power Party," criticizing, "The People Power Party still fails to properly read the 'will of the people' who, through the general election, judged the government and ruling party and gave the opposition an overwhelming majority of seats."

They also pointed out, "Rather than fulfilling the legislative branch's role to properly monitor and check the executive branch in accordance with the general election's mandate, they are more concerned about appeasing President Yoon Seok-yeol and a small group of supporters," adding, "The People Power Party has done this before, hiding behind 'precedent' and only engaging in media play."

They expressed suspicion, saying, "We strongly suspect that the organizational structure negotiations are being used as a stalling tactic to escape from various special investigations aimed at 'truth verification,' such as the Marine Corps special investigation and the Kim Geon-hee special investigation," and questioned, "Do they have the shallow intention of buying time to create an 'alibi' that the opposition forced things through 'power,' thereby escaping responsibility?"

The four opposition parties strongly urged the People Power Party, saying, "We strongly urge the People Power Party to comply with the National Assembly Act, complete the organizational structure promptly, and create a working National Assembly," and "We respectfully request that they first present a negotiation proposal and engage seriously in discussions."
