Junggu, Jangchungdan-gil Local Brand Project Group, and Paradise Sign 5-Day Business Agreement
Mutual Commitment to Revitalize Jangchungdan-gil Culture and Arts through Local Resource Collaboration
Promoting Commercial Area Revitalization by Installing Indoor and Outdoor Art & Tech Works in Jangchungdan-gil Commercial District
The Jangchungdan-gil alley commercial district, which embraces the colors of historical and cultural heritage such as Namsan and Dasan Fortress Wall Trail, is becoming richer in attractions.
Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gilsung) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on June 5 at the district office with the Jangchungdan-gil Local Brand Project Group and Paradise to revitalize the cultural and artistic scene of the Jangchung-dong alley commercial district.
According to the agreement, by October, 10 cultural and artistic works will be installed throughout the Jangchungdan-gil commercial district, including at Paradise headquarters. These artworks emphasize memories of special places in Jangchungdan-gil and the regional characteristics of Jangchung-dong, featuring media fa?ades, AR tours (augmented reality), and Jangchung-dong themed works utilizing AI chatbots.
The Paradise Art Lab Festival is a cultural and artistic activity that sensorially experiences artists’ works that fuse art and technology without boundaries between genres. Especially, the works reflecting the regional characteristics of Jangchungdan-gil will combine the past and present, allowing audiences to enjoy a historical story experience of Jangchung-dong along their route and be composed of works visualized through media fa?ades.
Before the installation of the works, the district office, project group, and partner organizations have been consulting on artist recruitment, installation locations, target works, and detailed criteria.
To brand the commercial district, the Jangchungdan-gil Local Brand Project Group recently provides fun activities and attractions where all generations can enjoy together in the Jangchungdan commercial district, which is gaining popularity as ‘Hipchungdong’.
The area surrounding the Jangchungdan-gil alley commercial district is rich in historic and cultural resources such as Namsan, Jangchungdan Park, Namsoyeong Square, Jangchung Gymnasium, and Dasan Fortress Wall Trail. Long-established stores with a ‘history’ of flavors, such as Taegukdang and jokbal restaurants, are also concentrated here. Against this regional backdrop, the brand is being built around the keyword ‘Historical City’.
The district plans to continue utilizing this space as a complex cultural space that harmonizes the commercial district’s charm, visitor tendencies, and the latest culture, providing a balanced mix of attractions and entertainment.
District Mayor Kim Gilsung stated, "We will strive to transform the Jangchungdan-gil alley commercial district into an attractive area where commerce, history, and art blend by combining the stories contained in its historical and cultural resources with modern cultural and artistic content."
