Strengthening Public-Private-Academic Collaboration for the 2050 Carbon Neutrality Goal
The efforts of Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) to achieve carbon neutrality are drawing attention.
On the 5th, in celebration of Environment Day, the district held the ‘2050 Gangseo-gu Carbon Zero Festival’ around the Gangseo-gu Community Center.
This event was organized to strengthen community solidarity for the realization of ‘Carbon Neutral City Gangseo, Green Environment City Gangseo.’
About 400 participants, including institutions and organizations such as the district office, Gangseo Yangcheon Office of Education, Gangseo-gu Chamber of Commerce, Magok Resident Companies Association, Carbon Neutral Green Growth Committee, as well as local students and residents, attended the event.
The program began with a video emphasizing the importance of carbon neutrality, followed by a special lecture on practicing carbon reduction in daily life, a joint reading of the carbon neutrality declaration, and a carbon neutrality practice performance.
Attendees agreed on the necessity for the community to practice carbon neutrality together and pledged active cooperation. Notably, companies based in the Magok district and local students also participated, adding significance to the event.
The joint declaration included commitments to ▲joint response for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 ▲utilization of eco-friendly renewable energy ▲discovery and support of carbon neutrality projects ▲and spreading a carbon-neutral culture together with residents.
District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “The event name ‘2050 Gangseo-gu Carbon Zero Festival’ fully reflects the importance of carbon neutrality,” adding, “It conveys the need to empathize with the practice of carbon neutrality and the goal to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2050.”
He continued, “The international community is concerned that if the average temperature rises by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius, it will create an environment where human survival becomes difficult,” and emphasized, “The government has already declared carbon neutrality and enacted the Framework Act on Sustainable Development, so now all of us must practice carbon reduction activities together.”
