"The crime method was brutal, and the victim demands severe punishment"
The prosecution has filed an appeal, stating that severe punishment is necessary for the teenagers who collectively assaulted their juniors at a construction site and posted the footage on social media.
On the 5th, the Cheonan Branch of the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office announced that on the 30th of last month, it filed an appeal against two 15-year-old girls, A and another, who were sentenced in the first trial to 1 year and 6 months short-term and 2 years long-term imprisonment for violating the Act on the Punishment of Violent Acts, etc. (joint injury), and two other 15-year-old girls, including B, who were sentenced to 1 year and 6 months imprisonment with a 3-year probation.
They were prosecuted for collectively assaulting two victims aged 13 and 11 at the time at a construction site in Dongnam-gu, Cheonan City, last October. About 30 elementary and middle school students watched the assault and even encouraged it. The footage spread through social media, causing social controversy.
The prosecution stated, "Although the defendants are teenagers, they indiscriminately assaulted the victims for a long time in front of many students and even caused burns with cigarette burns, making the method of the crime extremely cruel," and added, "considering that the victims still want severe punishment for some of the defendants."
