Clinomics, a genome analysis (genetic analysis)-based early diagnosis company for cancer and diseases, announced on the 5th that it will officially enter the pet care market through its ‘Dognomics’ service. ‘Dognomics’ is a service that analyzes a dog's genetic information to understand health, diseases, and traits, and provides customized health management solutions based on this analysis.
Using oral epithelial cell DNA from companion dogs, the service conducts genetic ancestry analysis of 129 dog breeds, identifies 236 genetic disease factors, analyzes temperament, training and caregiving-related traits, and genetic similarity to wolves, providing a detailed report of the results.
‘Dognomics’ is a direct-to-consumer (DTC) product that can be applied for through the ‘Dognomics’ website. After applying, customers collect samples from their dogs using the delivered test kit and send them back to receive the test result report.
This allows consumers to conveniently undergo genetic analysis testing at home without visiting a hospital and to establish a systematic health management plan tailored to their dog's genetic characteristics.
Recently, the pet market has been rapidly growing worldwide, with the pet care market showing particularly remarkable performance. According to the global market research firm Fortune Business Insight, the global pet care industry market size was estimated at $260 billion (approximately 357 trillion KRW) last year, recording an average annual growth rate of 6.45%, and is expected to reach about $420 billion (approximately 577 trillion KRW) by 2032.
The domestic pet market is also growing rapidly. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the domestic market size was estimated at about 8 trillion KRW in 2022 and is expected to reach about 15 trillion KRW by 2027, with a high average annual growth rate of 14.5%.
Clinomics, based on Genome 2.0 technology, offers the ‘Dognomics’ service that enables early diagnosis of pet diseases and assessment of current health status. It provides specific numerical data on the health status of various organs, immune status, and aging status of companion dogs, and links the data with hospitals to provide more precise medical and care services.
A Clinomics representative stated, “We plan to further advance the ‘Dognomics’ service through continuous research and development and establish ourselves as a global leader in the pet healthcare field. Additionally, we will expand genetic analysis services for various pets to secure a broader customer base and contribute to the improvement of pet health and welfare.”
