As generative artificial intelligence (AI) establishes itself as an important tool in the creative domain, investments in related startups are increasing. According to CB Insights, the global investment scale related to this sector surged from $3.2 billion in 2022 to $17.4 billion in the first to third quarters of 2023. The text generation AI field attracted $639 million (24 deals) in investments, while visual media generation AI companies secured $387 million (33 deals).

Samjong KPMG published a report titled "Investment Status and Utilization Prospects of Generative AI Entering the Creative Domain" on the 5th. The report introduced major global generative AI startups across six creative fields: text, image, video, avatar, code, and voice.


In the text field, Israel's AI21 Labs, the enterprise-focused text editing platform company Writer, and branding and marketing specialized company Jasper have drawn attention. In the image field, Canva, Stability AI, Midjourney, and the Korean webtoon creation solution company Toonsquare were mentioned.


In the video field, Runway and Korea's Twelve Labs, which recently attracted strategic investments from companies such as NVIDIA, are representative. In the avatar field, Character.ai, Inworld AI, and the Korean company DeepBrain AI were introduced.


In the code field, companies such as Replit, Magic, and Codium AI showed investment attraction status. In the voice field, Descript, Papercup, and Supertone, which was acquired by HYBE, have drawn attention.


Samjong KPMG presented five major challenges in the process of expanding the influence of generative AI technology: job stability, the proliferation of misinformation, securing high-quality data, cybersecurity, and copyright issues. Yeom Seung-hoon, Vice President of Samjong KPMG, stated, "When considering investments in generative AI companies, a differentiated approach is necessary to improve the accuracy of AI outputs and maintain stable computing infrastructure," adding, "Companies preparing to adopt and utilize generative AI must strengthen monitoring of evolving AI copyright policies and management of cybersecurity risks."
