On June 6 at 9:55 a.m., the city of Busan will hold the 69th Memorial Day Ceremony at the Chungnyeong Tower in Jungang Park to honor the sacrifices and contributions of national patriots.
More than 600 people, including national patriots and their families, Mayor Park Hyungjun, City Council Chairman Ahn Sungmin, Superintendent Ha Yoonsu, and other key officials, will attend to pay tribute to the noble spirit of sacrifice of those who dedicated themselves to the country.
The ceremony will begin at exactly 10:00 a.m. with a nationwide siren and a moment of silent tribute, followed by the National Pledge, floral tribute and incense offering, a memorial address by Mayor Park Hyungjun, a recitation of a memorial poem by the City Arts Troupe, a choral tribute by the City Choir, and the singing of the "Song of Remembrance."
Mayor Park Hyungjun stated, "We bow our heads in remembrance of the sacrifices made by the patriotic spirits who dedicated themselves to the nation and sincerely pray for their eternal rest. The city will continue to realize warm support for national patriots and their families, expand respect and honor for those who gave their lives for the country, and further promote a culture of remembrance so that future generations will remember the dedication of their predecessors."
A city official said, "On Memorial Day, we ask that households and workplaces fly the national flag at half-mast, and when the siren sounds at exactly 10:00 a.m. for one minute, citizens should not be alarmed but pause what they are doing and join in a moment of silent tribute until the siren ends."
