Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) has completed the 6th ocean discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (referred to as "treated water" by the Japanese government). The 7th discharge will begin this month.
According to major foreign media including Kyodo News on the 4th, TEPCO, the operator of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, discharged 7,892 tons of contaminated water into the sea from the 17th of last month until this day. TEPCO stated that there were no abnormalities in the concentration of tritium in the seawater nearby during the discharge period.
TEPCO began ocean discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in August last year and has disposed of approximately 47,000 tons of contaminated water over six discharges up to this month. The contaminated water was treated by releasing it into the sea in front of the Fukushima nuclear plant.
TEPCO plans to conduct the 7th discharge from this month until next month. The 8th, 9th, and 10th discharges will also be carried out once a month. After the 10th discharge is completed in October, inspections will be conducted, and the 11th discharge is scheduled to begin between February and March next year.
From April this year to March next year, a total of 54,600 tons of contaminated water will be discharged over seven times. As before, 7,800 tons will be discharged each time.
