On the 3rd (local time), U.S. daily The New York Times (NYT) and others reported that Republican Representative Rose gave a passionate defense of former President Donald Trump, the party's presidential candidate who was recently found guilty in a 'sexual harassment hush money' trial, during a five-minute speech in Congress. Rose began his speech by saying, "I stand here today to mention the terrible precedent set by political prosecutions using the judicial system and the guilty verdicts against former President Trump." The speech was broadcast live on the U.S. nonprofit channel C-SPAN.

However, the broadcast camera captured more than just Representative Rose during the speech. The camera angle included Rose's son, Guy (6), sitting behind the podium. Dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, Guy smiled as soon as his father's speech began and looked directly into the camera lens. About 30 seconds later, he started performing. Guy opened his eyes as wide as possible, stuck out his tongue, and even acted out hand gestures. After about a minute into the speech, Guy, stepping slightly out of the camera frame so his father could be shown in a full shot, took out a stress ball toy from his pocket and played with it.

This scene quickly spread widely on social media and became a hot topic. The media said, "The most memorable part of Representative Rose's heartfelt speech was not his words," adding, "(Guy's appearance) will be remembered longer than any of his father's words." After the speech, Representative Rose checked social media and realized that his son Guy had received more attention than himself. Rose explained, "I told Guy to look at the camera and smile for his younger sibling, and this is what happened."

Overseas netizens who saw this responded with comments such as "So adorable," "Such distractions are always welcome," "This kid just acted out what I feel in Congress," and "He might become more famous than his dad."
