The Emissions Trading Market Council announced on the 4th that it held a first-half seminar at the Korea Exchange Conference Hall on the topics of 'Current Status and Price Trends of Domestic and International Emissions Trading Markets,' 'The Spread and Implementation of Korea-style RE100 (100% Renewable Energy Usage) and Future Tasks,' and 'Response Strategies to Strengthened Global Carbon Trade Barriers.'
In the first session, Kim Tae-seon, CEO of NAMU EnR, presented on recent price fluctuation factors in the European Union (EU) emissions trading market, changes in the domestic emissions trading market after COVID-19, and improvement tasks.
Following this, Jeong Taek-jung, Chairperson of the Korea RE100 Council, presented on the barriers to renewable energy procurement for domestic companies compared to the development of the global RE100 market, as well as future tasks for the spread and implementation of RE100. In the subsequent panel discussion, Yoo Seung-hoon, Dean of Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Kim Min-ji, Officer of the Climate Economy Division at the Ministry of Environment, and Lee Sang-jun, Professor at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, participated in the discussion.
In the second session, Kim Byung-sam, Partner at Deloitte Anjin LLC, presented on response strategies to the strengthening of global carbon trade barriers, focusing on the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), the United States' Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), and France's Carbon Green Industry Act, discussing their impact on Korean companies and response strategies. In the following panel discussion, chaired by Yoo Seung-jik, Professor at Sookmyung Women's University, Moon Jun-ho, Manager at Korea Exchange, Oh Hyung-na, Professor at Kyung Hee University, Nam Jung-im, Director at the Korea Iron & Steel Association, Kim Sung-woo, Director of the Environment and Energy Research Institute at Kim & Chang, and Lee Jae-yoon, Director at the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade, participated in the discussion.
