[Financial Insider] Challenge Yourself as a 'Njobber' Insurance Planner... 'Wonder' Helps You

Sales Support and Multi-Job Platform Lotte Insurance 'Wonder'
Obtain Insurance Planner License in 2 Weeks for Side Jobs
Service Advancement as a Comprehensive Financial Platform

A multi-job platform where you can design insurance for family and acquaintances and even earn money is gaining popularity. It is 'Wonder,' developed by Lotte Insurance from January 2022 and launched at the end of last year. Wonder assists 'N-jobbers' (people with two or more jobs) who want to become insurance planners as a side job by supporting the entire process from qualification acquisition to product contracts and profit generation. Hwang Doohwan, head of the sales support team at Lotte Insurance operating Wonder, introduced it as "a platform where, unlike the traditional model where insurance agents took commissions when you signed up for insurance, Wonder allows you to become a smart planner, sign up yourself, and receive insurance commissions directly," adding, "It is an insurance platform where you create your own income with your own hands."

Wonder fully supports the education fees, exam fees, and registration fees required to become a 'Smart Planner,' a commissioned planner of Lotte Insurance. You can obtain the qualification in about two weeks by studying two hours a day. When you first register as a Smart Planner, you can receive up to 750,000 KRW in cash depending on your performance. Hwang said, "If you sign up for a family car insurance through Wonder, you can earn enough money to buy a game console for your child," adding, "Becoming a Smart Planner also helps you understand what insurance your family needs, making it a win-win."

As Wonder has gained word-of-mouth popularity among N-jobbers, about 1,000 Smart Planners have been produced through Wonder in the past three months. Currently, the average age of Lotte Insurance's face-to-face planners is over 50, but the average age of Smart Planners is 45.9, making them younger. Among them, the proportion of people in their 20s and 30s is 27%, showing a gradual increase. The gender ratio is similar, with 46% male and 54% female. Excluding car insurance, the average productivity per person through Wonder's digital channel is 40,904 KRW.

The most subscribed insurance through Wonder so far is health insurance. Hwang explained, "In the past, there was a strong perception that the coverage details of health insurance such as cancer, brain, and heart were difficult to understand, but through Wonder's own analysis program, you can select the lacking coverage without much difficulty," adding, "This is why health insurance sells more than car insurance."

Smart Planners can also use Wonder to handle the entire sales process, from contract writing to customer management, entirely from their hands without ever going to the office. After signing a contract with a customer, there is no need to carry heavy stacks of documents to the headquarters. Hwang said, "Even existing planners are concluding over 90% of new contracts through Wonder since its introduction," adding, "Wonder has transformed the sales environment from offline to online."

Even though work is handled online, complete sales management and underwriting (insurance application review) proceed through the existing procedures. At contract signing, underwriting is conducted by comprehensively assessing the insured's pre-contract disclosure obligations, including medical history, treatment history, and insurance claim history before insurance subscription. Before contract completion, electronic monitoring of complete sales is conducted for the policyholder and insured. This process checks whether handwritten signatures on the application, delivery of application copies, and explanations and delivery of important terms and conditions were properly done. Hwang said, "If any deficiencies are found under the dedicated team's inspection, the contract is canceled," adding, "We monitor the entire contract-related process based on Smart Planner activity data and manage collection rates and retention rates by transfer dates."

Lotte Insurance recently signed a business agreement with CrowdWorks, the nation's top data labeling platform company. The strategy is to expose the Wonder application on CrowdWorks, which attracts about 600,000 AI-related N-jobbers, to secure more Smart Planners. Hwang said, "CrowdWorks and Wonder share the core value of seeking side jobs," adding, "Our initial goal is to register 100 additional Smart Planners over about 70 days in a pilot form."

Lotte Insurance plans to enhance the service by introducing generative AI into Wonder in the future. They intend to provide chatbot-style customer service and use it to respond in real time to various inquiries from Smart Planners and improve productivity. Hwang said, "We plan to expand collaboration with other industries to grow Wonder into a comprehensive financial services platform," adding, "You will be able to see Wonder in many more places going forward."
