Yongin City Utilizes Traditional Houses, Jonggatjip, Hyanggyo, and Seowon as Educational Content

Operation of Educational Programs Utilizing Local Cultural Heritage

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 4th that it will operate educational programs utilizing local cultural heritage such as vivid national heritage sites, traditional houses, and ancestral homes starting from the 8th.


This program was selected through a public contest organized by the Cultural Heritage Administration's 'Local Cultural Heritage Utilization Project' and utilizes ▲vivid national heritage ▲traditional houses and ancestral homes ▲hyanggyo and seowon cultural heritage.


Specifically, 'That Day's Cheoinseong, Today's Us' focuses on Cheoinseong, Gyeonggi Province Monument No. 44. This program has been selected for 10 consecutive contests since 2015. It consists of four parts: ▲Cheoinseong Day&Night Field Camp ▲Vivid Cheoinseong! Blazing Cheoinseong! ▲Every Little Detail of Cheoinseong History! ▲The Record of That Day in 1232, and will be held from the 8th.

Yongin City Utilizes Traditional Houses, Jonggatjip, Hyanggyo, and Seowon as Educational Content

The 'Eumae Gongpa Traditional House,' selected for the 8th time this year, offers an educational program called 'Enjoying the Charm of Eungeon at Eumae Gongpa Traditional House,' where participants can experience the life and history of Master Lee Ja of Eumae by utilizing traditional houses and ancestral homes. Programs such as ▲History Concert Sung in Poetry ▲Quiet and Simple Joys of the Traditional House ▲Customs and Connections ▲Eumae Traditional House Atelier ▲Dalaeul, Please Climb Over the Wall will start from the 28th. Visitors can also experience traditional crafts such as gyubang (women’s room) crafts and woodworking, directly engaging in the daily tasks of the traditional house.


The hyanggyo and seowon cultural heritage utilization project 'Blooming the Spirit of Seonbi in Yongin,' held at Simgok Seowon, Chungnyeol Seowon, and Yangji Hyanggyo, allows participants to experience the seonbi spirit of Po Eun Jeong Mong-ju and Jeong Am Jo Gwang-jo, representative figures of Yongin City. Selected for seven rounds since 2018 through the Cultural Heritage Administration’s contest, this program is divided into four parts: ▲Dialogue between Po Eun and Jeong Am, Humanities Concert ▲Dalhwadalhwa ? Hyanggyo and Seowon Dyed in Moonlight ▲Yongin, Nature, and the Elegance of Seonbi ▲Learning Neo-Confucianism through Constellations, providing opportunities to observe the daily life of hyanggyo and seowon.


Individuals or groups can apply for the programs. Applications for the 'Vivid National Heritage' and 'Traditional Houses and Ancestral Homes Utilization' programs can be made through the 'Nolto' website. For the 'Hyanggyo and Seowon Cultural Heritage Utilization' program, application methods can be found on the 'Yesulsup' website.


A city official stated, "Through educational programs utilizing distinctive local cultural heritage, this will be an opportunity to appreciate the value of Yongin’s local cultural heritage," adding, "We will strive to expand such programs to contribute to the local economy and tourism revitalization."
