Preliminary cultural heritage is a system that selects and manages cultural heritage representing modern and contemporary history and culture, even though it has not been 50 years since its creation or formation. It will be introduced on September 15.

The contest held last month included various industrial and cultural arts heritage. Among industrial heritage, an automatic match manufacturing machine made in 1982 stood out. It is a device used at Seonggwang Match Industry in Uiseong, Gyeongbuk, which dipped paraffin and gunpowder onto matchsticks and dried them. It is considered the only remaining modern and contemporary industrial heritage related to match manufacturing in the country.

A three-wheeled cargo vehicle, once called a 'briquette delivery truck,' also participated in the contest. It is the Kia T-2000 model produced from 1967 to 1974 and later discontinued. It was mainly used by self-employed people or freight companies in the past. A Cultural Heritage Administration official explained, "Only one remains in the country today."

In the cultural arts field, the handwritten manuscript of the magazine Deep-Rooted Tree, founded in March 1976 by the late Han Chang-gi, former representative of the Korean Britannica, was submitted. Deep-Rooted Tree was a monthly magazine with 65,000 regular subscribers. At that time, it was rare to use only Hangul for the title in pure Korean, and the manuscript was written accordingly.

A Cultural Heritage Administration official added, "It applied a groundbreaking editorial design, such as introducing horizontal writing in printed form for the first time." He continued, "This manuscript was written directly by Representative Han Chang-gi from the first issue," adding, "Its preservation state is good, making it important for studying the history and process of magazine publication at that time."

The Cultural Heritage Administration plans to finalize the selection of preliminary cultural heritage after investigating the submitted cultural heritage, undergoing expert reviews in each field, and deliberation by the Cultural Heritage Committee. Once selected, support for necessary technology and education for preservation and utilization will be provided.
