Gijang County in Busan Emerges as a Major Hub for OTT Platforms

Busan City-Gijang County-Korean Film Council Sign Implementation Agreement for Busan Filming Studio Construction

On the 3rd, Gijang-gun in Busan signed an implementation agreement at Busan City Hall with Busan Metropolitan City and the Korean Film Council for the promotion of the "Online Video Service (OTT) Platform Hub Busan Filming Studio Construction Project."


Through this agreement, the three organizations will cooperate to build an OTT-exclusive filming studio and auxiliary facilities in Gijang Ceramic Village (Jangan-eup, Giryong-ri), Gijang-gun, by 2027.


With this agreement, Gijang-gun will permit Busan City to use 11,272 square meters of land within Gijang Ceramic Village free of charge for the establishment of the "OTT Platform Hub Busan Filming Studio" promoted by Busan City. In addition, Gijang-gun will build a cooperative system with Busan City and the Korean Film Council to attract domestic and international productions and foster the film and video industry ecosystem in Busan.


An official from Gijang-gun stated that with the construction of the Busan Filming Studio, the area around Gijang Ceramic Village will be developed into the largest film studio complex in Korea, equipped with cutting-edge technology such as dedicated filming studios and virtual production systems, establishing itself as a true hub of the domestic film and video industry.


Gijang-gun Mayor Jung Jongbok emphasized, "Gijang Ceramic Village, set against a backdrop of beautiful natural scenery, is home to the Andersen Theater, Andersen Fairy Tale Village, and Theme Forest, making it a popular healing spot for Busan citizens. With the addition of the filming studio by Busan City and the Korean Film Council, it will become a new landmark visited by filmmakers and tourists from around the world, serving as a driving force for revitalizing the local economy."


He added, "Through close cooperation with Busan City and the Korean Film Council, we will attract the production and filming of various works, contribute to the revitalization of the local economy and culture, and establish a virtuous cycle for the development of Busan's film and video industry."
