Establishment of Permanent Small-Scale Art Museums in Local Communities
Providing Opportunities for Local Residents to Enjoy Culture and Arts
Sacheon Art Museum, operated by Sacheon Cultural Foundation in Gyeongnam, announced on the 4th that it has been finally selected for the "2024 Small Art Museum Establishment and Operation Support Project," hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Arts Council Korea.
This project utilizes idle spaces owned by local governments to establish and support the operation of small, permanent, community-based art museums, thereby expanding and providing opportunities for local residents, who have limited access to art exhibitions, to enjoy culture and the arts.
Sacheon Art Museum applied for the "2024 Small Art Museum Establishment and Operation Support Project" and was selected in the "Exhibition Revitalization Support" category, which targets small art museums that have been established for four years or more.
Accordingly, Sacheon Cultural Foundation plans to hold collaborative special exhibitions (twice), artist meet-and-greet events, archiving, and hands-on programs at Sacheon Art Museum in cooperation with local artists.
The special exhibitions will reinterpret the daily lives of citizens living in Sacheon from an artistic perspective and share local social issues, providing opportunities to recognize and reflect on these problems.
The exhibitions will be held in August and October, and detailed schedules for each exhibition will be announced later. Meanwhile, Sacheon Art Museum is open to the public free of charge from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
