Second Award After 2020 MOIS Commendation... Organization-wide Efforts Recognized
Establishing a Digital-Based Disaster Management System, Strengthening Field-Oriented Capabilities
Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC, President Kim Yonghak) announced on the 4th that it has received the Prime Minister’s Commendation in the ‘2024 National Disaster Management Merit’ awards organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The National Disaster Management Merit is a government award given to individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to strengthening the national disaster management system by actively managing disasters, thereby reducing casualties and property damage and creating a safer environment.
BMC was recognized for its efforts, including: ▲Strengthening disaster safety responsibility by greatly expanding special inspections led by the head of the organization ▲Enhancing disaster safety inspections through the use of scientific and technological equipment ▲Reinforcing on-site disaster management capabilities through expanded disaster response drills at workplaces and safety experience training for employees ▲Supporting vulnerable groups in social disasters (such as fires and gas accidents) ▲Strengthening disaster safety facilities for the socially disadvantaged ▲Conducting inspections and recovery activities in disaster-prone areas such as contributed land, thereby establishing a disaster safety network in workplaces and daily life.
In particular, since receiving the Minister of the Interior and Safety’s Commendation in the National Disaster Management Merit category four years ago, BMC has continued to upgrade its management system by: ▲Establishing a digital-based disaster management system through the construction and full operation of a safety management platform ▲Expanding the introduction of smart safety equipment ▲Utilizing the organization’s disaster safety management plan as a practical emergency response manual and strengthening the stockpiling, support, and response of disaster management resources ▲Obtaining certification as an excellent disaster mitigation company and introducing a disaster safety specialist system ▲Publishing and distributing disaster safety management guidebooks and casebooks for rental housing and construction sites ▲Safety commitment declarations by safety officers, among other continuous efforts to strengthen the disaster management system.
Kim Yonghak, President of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, said, “With this award, the government has recognized our multifaceted efforts to prevent disasters and strengthen the disaster management system since the corporation’s establishment in 1991. We will further strengthen our on-site safety management practices to protect the lives and property of citizens, and make every effort across the organization to build and expand the achievements of the national disaster management system.”
