'Promoting Local Attractions to Foreigners'… Visit Korea Committee Announces Contest for Regional Tourism Inbound Companies

10 Companies, Up to 24 Million KRW Support per Company

The government, which is promoting the revitalization of local tourism, will support the development of local tourism products for foreigners visiting Korea.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Visit Year Committee announced on the 4th that they will open a call for domestic inbound companies to develop and operate local tourism products targeting foreigners.


This project was planned to develop attractive local products so that many foreign visitors can also visit regions in Korea. The committee explained that through this, they aim to develop local tourism products reflecting recent inbound tourism trends such as individual travel and experiential demand, enhance the appeal of Korean tourism to foreigners, and foster the local tourism industry and promote win-win cooperation through systematic support for the tourism sector.


Up to 10 companies will be selected through the call. Selected companies will receive ▲funding necessary for new product development and operation ▲expert consulting during product planning ▲additional individual consulting for product planning improvements during subsequent promotional marketing (June to July) ▲support for producing promotional video content (July) ▲registration of products on global tourism product sales platforms and promotional exhibitions (July to September) ▲actual sales consulting during the product sales period (July to December) ▲and ongoing promotional marketing support.


Applicant companies must submit a local tourism product plan differentiated from existing products. They must also select and reflect one of the main themes: Hip Tradition (traditional culture), Food Adventure (gastronomic travel), Scenery (natural landscapes), or Art & Shows (cultural events). Selected companies will receive up to 24 million KRW in support.


The evaluation will be based on the excellence of the product plan content and overall company capabilities to make the final selection. The process will proceed in the order of the announcement of the first-round document screening, the second-round company presentation and evaluation, and the final selection of target companies.

Applicant companies should check the eligibility requirements for the ‘2024 Local Tourism Specialized Product Development and Operation Call’ in advance and submit the product plan and other application documents via the announced email by 24:00 on the 10th. Detailed information can be found on the Korea Visit Year Committee website or the Korea Tourism Development Institute website.


A representative from the Visit Year Committee said, "We expect this to serve as a catalyst for the development of various local tourism products through the development and operation of attractive tourism products with unique regional characteristics," adding, "We will actively discover and support inbound specialized companies in regions with product planning capabilities so that popular products for foreigners continue to be developed and actual sales are revitalized, ultimately contributing to the revitalization of the local economy."
