130 Million Won Surgery Fee and Mobile Phone Almost Lost
Elderly Person Gives Reward Money in Gratitude
The story of an elderly man who left an envelope containing a reward for the police officers who found his surgery fee has been shared, creating a heartwarming atmosphere. The police officers eventually returned the reward, saying they would only accept his gratitude. On the 1st, a video titled "A Mysterious White Envelope in a Police Car" was uploaded on the official YouTube channel of the National Police Agency.
The story goes like this. On March 15th, an elderly man, leaning on a cane and walking with difficulty, visited the Seokjeon Police Substation in Masanhoewon-gu, Changwon, Gyeongnam. Upon seeing the man, the officers hurriedly ran outside, and the elderly man explained in an urgent voice that he had left a bag containing about 1.3 million won for surgery fees and his cellphone on the bus.
The police officers quickly contacted the Changwon City Bus Association and the bus company to trace the whereabouts of the elderly man's bag. Eventually, they got in touch with the driver of the bus the elderly man had boarded and arranged to meet at the bus stop according to the bus’s turnaround schedule. While sending several vehicles and waiting for the bus, the officers rushed to retrieve the bag as soon as the bus arrived. The elderly man checked the bag and sighed in relief, saying, "Everything is still there."
However, the next day, the elderly man returned to the police substation with difficulty. He said, "I really wanted to buy you a drink yesterday to thank you, but my legs hurt, so I couldn’t," and handed over an envelope containing cash. The police politely declined the reward, saying, "We will only accept your gratitude." The officers then drove the elderly man home in the police car and returned to the substation. It was said that the envelope with cash was left on the back seat. The officers then visited the elderly man’s home again to return the envelope.
Netizens who saw this showed touching reactions to the elderly man and the police officers’ actions. Comments included, "A heartwarming story after a long time," "The elderly man is wonderful, and the police returned it well," "Thanks to the wonderful and reliable police officers, I feel safe and happy today," "This video shows the kindness of the police officers. Always grateful," "The bus driver, police officers, and elderly man are all good people," and "Applause for the Seokjeon Police Substation and Changwon City Bus Association."
