Jongno-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) announced on the 4th that it confirmed an additional supplementary budget (supplementary budget) of 32.6 billion KRW for the first time this year at the 334th regular session of the Jongno-gu Council held on the 31st of last month.
The supplementary budget funds come from surplus funds from last fiscal year’s settlement, national and city subsidies, and remaining subsidy balances. As a result, the total budget size of Jongno-gu increased by 5.9% compared to the original budget (550.4 billion KRW) to 583 billion KRW.
The supplementary budget will be evenly invested in various fields such as welfare service support, installation of resident convenience facilities, and revitalization of the local economy. First, to establish Jongno-type welfare services, 2.37 billion KRW was allocated for the establishment of the Jongno Welfare Foundation, which is scheduled to launch in the second half of the year; 180 million KRW was allocated to expand lunch provision to elderly users of senior centers to five days a week; and 120 million KRW was allocated for shingles vaccination for vulnerable groups.
For convenience in daily life, including cultural and welfare facilities such as senior centers, daycare centers, youth culture houses, and public parking lots in residential areas, 3.39 billion KRW was allocated, and 180 million KRW was allocated for the creation of the Jongno Dulle-gil Trail and Samcheong Healing Forest.
In the era of high inflation, to ease the burden on residents and small business owners, 150 million KRW was allocated in the second half of the year as a discount subsidy for the Jongno Love Gift Certificate issued exclusively for delivery apps. Also included in this supplementary budget is 190 million KRW for supporting Jongno’s urban industries, represented by sewing and jewelry. Additionally, 1.37 billion KRW was allocated for maintenance of infrastructure such as sewage and roads.
District Mayor Jeong Munheon said, “I am very pleased that the budget to expand lunch for elderly users of senior centers was prepared thanks to the active will and cooperation of the district council,” and added, “We will do our best to effectively manage the limited budget to promote projects that residents can feel in their daily lives and improve their quality of life.”
