First Mock Exam Conducted After Medical School Expansion
Maximum Number of Repeat Applicants in 15 Years
The first mock exam conducted by the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation (KICE) this year, in preparation for the 2025 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), will be held on the 4th. The June mock exam is the first test in which repeat test-takers (graduates or above) participate, and factors such as the second year of the 'killer question (ultra-high difficulty question) exclusion' policy and the confirmed increase in medical school quotas are expected to play a role.
The June mock exam, organized by KICE which creates the CSAT questions, will be conducted simultaneously at 2,114 high schools and 502 designated academies nationwide on this day.
Among the total 474,133 applicants, 435,435 (81.3%) are current high school seniors, and 88,698 (18.7%) are repeat test-takers. Notably, the number of repeat test-taker applicants is the highest in 15 years since the 2011 academic year.
Compared to last year's June mock exam, the number of applicants increased by 10,458, with current students increasing by 10,060 and repeat test-takers by 398.
The principle of excluding killer questions, applied for the second consecutive year since last year, will be maintained in this year's June and September mock exams as well as the CSAT. The mock exam held on this day will have the same test areas and number of questions as this year's CSAT, allowing an estimation of difficulty and question trends.
Moreover, this mock exam is the first to be held after the confirmation of the increase in medical school quotas, providing a sense of the participation scale of current students and repeat test-takers.
The Korean language and mathematics sections will be conducted in a 'common subject + elective subject' structure. All test-takers who choose Korean or mathematics must take the common subject, and for each section's elective subjects, test-takers respond to one subject of their choice.
In the social studies and science inquiry sections, test-takers can select up to two subjects from 17 available subjects, and in the vocational inquiry section, up to two subjects can be chosen from six subjects.
At the end of March, KICE announced the 'Basic Plan for the 2025 CSAT Implementation,' stating that while maintaining the overall 50% linkage rate with EBS materials, questions will be designed to enhance the perceived connection to EBS content.
Answers will be finalized and announced at 5 p.m. on the 18th, and score notifications will be issued on the 2nd of next month.
