Geumcheon-gu Village Park Underground Public Parking Lot, Aboveground Walking Path and Water Playground

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will create and operate a public parking lot with 103 spaces underground at the village park (Doksan 2-dong 1056-5) to alleviate parking difficulties in the Doksan 2-dong area.

The district has been promoting the construction of a public parking lot to improve the parking environment in Doksan 2-dong, where low-rise single-family and multi-family houses are densely packed, causing severe parking problems.

Due to practical difficulties such as site selection for building a large-scale parking lot in a residential area, it was decided to utilize the underground space of the village park as a parking lot.

The aboveground park was renovated by replacing facilities, and a complex development plan was established to convert the underground area into a parking lot. Construction began in 2022 and has been completed.

On June 4, the district will hold a completion ceremony for the parking lot at the Doksan 2-dong village park, attended by Mayor Yu Seong-hoon, National Assembly member Choi Ki-sang, District Council Chairman Kim Yong-sul, and local residents.

The parking lot has a total floor area of approximately 3,800㎡, with 46 parking spaces on the first basement level and 57 spaces on the second basement level, totaling 103 spaces. The first-floor park covers 2,242㎡ and includes walking paths, exercise equipment, a water play area, a pavilion, benches with backrests, and restrooms.

The district pursued the project with the goal of constructing an eco-friendly and safe parking lot with resident participation. Public hearings were held during the design and construction phases to gather residents' opinions, and expert consultations were conducted to minimize risks associated with the construction and operation of the parking lot.

This project is regarded as a case where the district effectively utilized public land as a complex of a public parking lot and park, achieving a triple benefit of reducing project costs, alleviating parking difficulties, and providing a pleasant living environment.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “Residents of Doksan 2-dong have long suffered great inconvenience due to parking difficulties and illegal parking, and I am glad that this problem is finally being resolved. I hope the newly created public parking lot and park will help improve the residential environment for our residents.”
