Jungnang-gu School Sports Facilities Opened to Residents Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu (left), took a commemorative photo with Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, at the agreement ceremony held at Jungnang-gu Office at 11 a.m. on the 3rd.

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) signed a business agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Jo Hee-yeon) on the 3rd to enhance the convenience of residents' physical activities.

The main focus of this agreement is to activate the opening of school sports facilities. Through this agreement, it is expected to reduce the idle time of sports facilities such as school playgrounds, increase their utilization, and also expand the local sports infrastructure.

According to the agreement, schools will open sports facilities such as gyms and playgrounds to the local community on weekends, and the district will dispatch school managers to ensure facility safety management. School managers are personnel responsible for various safety management tasks at the opened schools.

The 'School Manager' pilot project will dispatch personnel to schools that open sports facilities on weekends (Saturday to Sunday) to take charge of various safety management tasks. The recruitment and operating costs will be shared equally by Jungnang-gu and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, each bearing 50%.

The main roles of the school managers include ▲ verifying the identity of school facility reservation users ▲ controlling access of outsiders ▲ supervising user activities ▲ inspecting facilities after the opening hours end.

The district is responsible for recruiting, dispatching, and managing school managers, subscribing to facility liability insurance, and cooperating to resolve accidents and complaints arising from school facility openings to ensure smooth operation. The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education plans to encourage school participation by providing an incentive of 20 million won to pilot schools participating with school managers.

Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said, “We thank the schools participating in the opening project for the residents, and we ask residents to use the school facilities, which are the learning grounds for students, cleanly. We will work closely with the Office of Education to ensure safety management so that the facility opening can be conducted safely and smoothly.”

The district is also making efforts to improve the quality of the local educational environment. This year, the district raised the education budget to 12 billion won, ranking second among Seoul’s autonomous districts. Using this, it supports various programs such as basic academic achievement enhancement programs for elementary, middle, and high schools through school competitions, the Dreamdam Library project to improve libraries, small-scale school facility improvements, and modernization of educational equipment including the creation of learning cafes.

In particular, when allocating this year’s education budget, the focus was on promoting educational projects that respect student diversity and meet field demands, such as supporting educational activities for elementary special classes, supporting middle and high school sports teams, and supporting club operations. Going forward, the district plans to continuously communicate with schools and parents to expand education budget subsidies and make every effort to create the best public education environment.
