On the 3rd, the Gwangju Nambu Police Station announced that they had arrested a woman in her 40s, identified as A, on charges of habitual theft for repeatedly stealing groceries from unmanned stores.
A is accused of stealing groceries worth approximately 40,000 won during nine separate incidents at unmanned stores during early dawn hours in secluded areas from the 20th of last month to the 1st of this month.
At the time, A was also wanted for thefts committed in Seo-gu, Buk-gu, and Nam-gu districts of Gwangju Metropolitan City.
Police investigations revealed that A committed these crimes due to financial hardship.
After receiving damage reports from merchants, the police conducted a stakeout and arrested A on the morning of the 1st at an unmanned store in Nam-gu, Gwangju, catching her in the act. Considering that A's residence was unknown and that she was wanted, the police applied for an arrest warrant, which was granted by the court.
