Collaboration Project with POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks
On the 3rd, Mokpo National University (President Song Ha-cheol) announced that students taking the liberal arts course "Corporate Citizenship Management and ESG" (professors Kang Min-jung, Choi Soo-jung, and Mile Hwan) in the College of Business Administration received an Excellence Award at the POSCO Group's "ESG Level-Up Ground Competition."
The "Corporate Citizenship Level-Up Ground" event hosted by POSCO Group was held on the 31st of last month at the POSCO Center in Seoul. About 250 participants attended, including university students from Mokpo National University, Seoul Women’s University, Sookmyung Women’s University, Yonsei University, Chungnam National University, POSTECH, and Handong University who took part in the "Corporate Citizenship Management and ESG" course in the first semester of this year, as well as POSCO Group employees from POSCO, POSCO International, POSCO Future M, POSCO DX, and N2B who collaborated on projects.
The competition was conducted by having students who completed excellent projects from each university introduce their teams' innovative ideas divided into the five corporate citizenship brand categories: Together, Challenge, Green, Life, and Community.
At Mokpo National University, two teams advanced to the finals based on their collaborative project with POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks and the evaluation results. Among them, one team received an Excellence Award in the project category, and the other team received an Excellence Award in the poster category.
The Excellence Award in the project category was awarded to the "PoPoUs" team, consisting of Um Geon-ho (4th year, Department of Information and Electronic Engineering) and four others, for their project "POSCO ESG Promotion and Mobile Game POINUS with the MZ Generation." The Excellence Award in the poster category was awarded to the "MokPOSCO" team, consisting of Na Hyun-jun (4th year, Department of Business Administration) and four others, for their project "Activating Communication Using the Anonymous Online Platform WE-ONE."
The ideas proposed by Mokpo National University were evaluated as strengthening sustainability by promoting POSCO’s ESG activities to the younger generation through games and establishing a communication-oriented organizational culture.
Lee Ga-hyun (2nd year, Department of Business Administration), a member of the award-winning team, said, "The project was a great opportunity to understand the importance of ESG management and how it should be applied in actual companies," adding, "Competing and presenting with students from major universities also helped me grow personally and gain confidence."
Kim Joo-an (4th year, Department of English Literature) expressed, "Thanks to the cooperation of team members and guidance from professors, we were able to create a high-quality poster and are very pleased to receive the Excellence Award," and added, "I will continue to maintain my interest in sustainable management."
Since July 2018, POSCO Group has internalized ESG as a corporate culture by declaring the corporate citizenship management philosophy and establishing the Corporate Citizenship Charter in 2019.
Accordingly, Mokpo National University operates liberal arts and major courses to spread ESG culture within the region, and provides all graduates with an ESG professional course completion certificate certified by POSCO Group.
