Inquiries Continue from Spain, Hungary, and Others
Enhancing Space Efficiency with Parallel Parking
Sampyo Group is expanding its new business area through an automatic robot parking system.
SP&Mobility, an affiliate of Sampyo Group, announced on the 3rd that it is accelerating its domestic market entry with the automatic robot parking system ‘MP System,’ which can replace mechanical parking lots.
SP&Mobility is a joint venture with SemperM, a startup possessing automatic robot parking technology. Since 2017, SemperM has been gaining prominence in overseas markets such as Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. Approximately 10,000 vehicles are parked using the automatic robot parking system overseas. Recently, inquiries have been continuing from European markets including Spain and Hungary.
The automatic robot parking system is a technology where robots directly lift and park vehicles. There is no need for a person to park the vehicle manually. It features enhanced safety, especially in situations where accidents such as falls frequently occur in mechanical parking.
Unlike the pallet structure of mechanical parking, the system combines a transfer device that freely moves within the building and enables parallel parking, allowing efficient use of space. With minimal facility structure, it secures more parking spaces within the same area while reducing underground depth and floor height, thereby lowering construction costs.
Additionally, while mechanical parking requires pallets according to vehicle types, the automatic robot parking system can control all vehicles including sedans, sport utility vehicles (SUVs), vans, and supercars. It can be accessed through various authentication methods such as fingerprint recognition, Face ID, and QR codes.
However, there are voices calling for institutional improvements in Korea. Since the existing mechanical parking device regulations are applied as they are, it is difficult to fully demonstrate the system’s unique advantages.
An SP&Mobility official said, “The automatic robot parking system is a purely domestic technology that prioritizes safety and solves the shortage of parking spaces, and its excellence has already been recognized in overseas markets. We will do our best to provide customers in Korea with a safe and convenient automatic robot parking experience.”
