Weekend Theater Attendance Reaches 953,625 Visitors
The Hollywood film 'Furiosa: Mad Max Saga' (hereafter Furiosa) topped the weekend box office.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticket sales network on the 3rd, 'Furiosa' (directed by George Miller) attracted 298,685 viewers over the three-day weekend (May 31 to June 2), securing the number one spot at the box office. Its revenue share was 33.0%. Since its release on May 22, it has recorded a cumulative audience of 1,051,030.
The film depicts Furiosa, who is brutally thrown into a desolate world 45 years after the collapse of civilization, embarking on a journey risking her entire life to return to her hometown. It is a prequel to 'Mad Max: Fury Road' (2015), which drew 3.93 million viewers domestically, covering the story set before the original timeline.
The actor Kang Dong-won’s starring film 'The Designer' (directed by Lee Yo-seop) attracted 201,000 viewers over the weekend. Released on May 29, it has accumulated 372,115 viewers.
During the weekend when the two films competed, 'Furiosa' came out on top. 'Furiosa' has maintained the number one position at the box office since its release on May 22. Although 'The Designer' was released on the 29th and briefly took the top spot, 'Furiosa' regained number one by attracting about 100,000 more viewers over the weekend. 'The Designer' remained in second place during its opening weekend, failing to attract even 400,000 viewers by that time.
In third place was 'She Died' (directed by Kim Se-hwi), starring actors Byun Yo-han and Shin Hye-sun, which attracted 146,547 viewers. Its cumulative audience reached 952,981. Fourth place went to 'The Outlaws 4' (directed by Heo Myeong-haeng), starring Ma Dong-seok, with 122,377 viewers. Its cumulative audience is 11,273,417.
Fifth place was the animation 'Haikyuu!! The Movie: Decisive Battle in the Garbage Dump' (37,820 viewers), sixth was 'Garfield the Movie' (26,202 viewers), and seventh was 'Planet of the Apes: New Era' (13,540 viewers). The total number of viewers who visited theaters over the weekend was 953,625.
