Haenam-gun Operates Humanities and Liberal Arts Program for Middle-aged and Older Adults

Selected for the 'Gilwi-ui Inmunhak Jihyehakgyo' Humanities Wisdom School Public Contest

Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, has been selected for the "Wisdom School of Humanities on the Road" project, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and jointly organized by the Korean Library Association and the Arts Council Korea.


According to the county on the 3rd, the Wisdom School utilizing libraries will operate an advanced humanities program at a university liberal arts level targeting the middle-aged and older adults.


The Wisdom School will run a total of 12 lectures under the intriguing theme, "The Future Learned from the Minimal Western History for the Middle-aged and Older."

The liberal arts program includes diverse topics such as "Greek Politics and Greek Mythology," "Roman Politics and Roman Culture," and "The Development of Medieval Christian Culture," and will be conducted by Dr. Kim Jeong-eun, an expert in Western history.


Haenam-gun plans to recruit 30 participants aged 50 and above in June, and the lectures will be held 12 times every Thursday and Friday during July and August.


The library Wisdom School is designed as an interactive lecture to help participants wisely embrace old age, generating much interest and participation.


A county official said, "This program will provide knowledge and enjoyment simultaneously to the middle-aged generation, and we hope participants will gain richer knowledge through a lecture style that encourages searching, questioning, and speaking."


Through the "Wisdom School of Humanities on the Road," Haenam-gun has prepared a valuable opportunity for the intellectual engagement of local residents.
