Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, is paying special attention to caring for national veterans and their families in June, the ‘Month of Patriots and Veterans.’

The district announced that it will strengthen veterans’ policies to honor national veterans and their families who have dedicated themselves to the nation and the people, and to promote a culture of respect for veterans.

This reflects the determination to ensure that heroes and national veterans who have devoted or sacrificed themselves for the country and the nation are never neglected or forgotten in society.

June is the ‘Month of Patriots and Veterans,’ dedicated to honoring the patriotic spirits who sacrificed their lives for the homeland. To emphasize the sacrifice and dedication of these patriotic heroes and to pledge remembrance, the district will launch various ‘veterans promotion projects’ starting with a memorial event at the National Seoul National Cemetery on June 1.

On June 4 at 2 p.m., the Yeongdeungpo Art Hall will host a ‘Month of Patriots and Veterans Commemoration Event’ attended by various veterans organizations and local residents. The event will open with a military band performance and feature ▲a security lecture by Park Sun-young, director of the nonprofit organization ‘Mulmangcho,’ which conducts various support projects and research to improve the human rights of military prisoners of war and North Korean defector children and youth, reflecting on ‘Security Awareness and Its Meaning in Daily Life’ ▲awards expressing gratitude to veterans ▲and a musical themed on veterans to decorate the event.

Additionally, on the day of the event at 10 a.m. in the second-floor exhibition hall, side events will be held where veterans’ families and children can participate, including ▲Steel Unit military camp ▲military uniform experience ▲veterans-themed drawing and postcard making ▲and Taegeukgi face painting.

On June 5, a ‘Memorial Ceremony’ will be held at the Anti-Communist Martyrs’ Memorial Tower with members of the Veterans Association, security and veterans organizations to pay tribute to the patriotic spirits. On June 6, Memorial Day, a ‘free shuttle bus’ will operate between the National Daejeon National Cemetery and the National Seoul National Cemetery to support transportation convenience for national veterans and their families. On June 26, a security lecture by instructor Tae Young-ho titled ‘The Possibility of Unification Seen Through the Emergence of the North Korean MZ Generation’ will follow.

Furthermore, the district is implementing various policies to honor and improve the welfare of national veterans, including ▲the first in the autonomous district to provide free use of funeral hall mortuary rooms ▲support for veterans’ honor allowances ▲subsidies for veterans organizations’ pilgrimage events to historical sites ▲and special leave granted to district office employees who are national veterans or their bereaved families.
