Foreign Media: "Biden Also Plans to Sign Security Agreement Between the Two Countries"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to attend the G7 (Group of Seven) summit held in Italy in mid-June, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced on the 1st (local time).

According to Italy's ANSA news agency, Prime Minister Meloni made the remarks during a press meeting at the Quirinal Palace gardens in Rome, the presidential residence, at a reception commemorating the Italian Republic Day on the 2nd.

Prime Minister Meloni did not disclose whether President Zelensky would attend the G7 summit in person or participate via video conference. President Zelensky previously attended the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan, in May last year in person.

Major British media reported on the 30th of last month, citing officials from both governments, that President Zelensky and U.S. President Joe Biden plan to sign a bilateral security agreement during this G7 summit.

Prime Minister Meloni introduced that at least 15 countries and international organizations, including President Zelensky, have been invited to this G7 summit.

Earlier, the Italian Prime Minister's Office announced that Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, President of T?rkiye, and Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), have accepted the invitations.

Major foreign media also reported that Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, might attend, but his official participation has not yet been confirmed.

Pope Francis will also attend this G7 summit. The Pope is scheduled to participate in the artificial intelligence (AI) session and deliver a speech.

The Italian government, which holds the G7 presidency this year, has not yet officially announced the list of invited countries to the G7 summit. The G7 is a group of seven Western advanced nations: the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, and Japan. The host country each year has the discretion to invite countries it believes can contribute to discussions on major international issues.

Major foreign media reported in April that Argentina, Egypt, Tunisia, Kenya, Algeria, and the G20 (Group of Twenty) host countries of last year, this year, and next year?India, Brazil, and South Africa?have been invited to the G7 summit.

South Korea attended last year's G7 summit upon Japan's invitation but was not invited this year. This year's G7 summit will be held from the 13th to the 15th at the Borgo Egnazia resort in Puglia, southeastern Italy.
