New DS Division Head Vice Chairman Jeon Young-hyun Responds to Reporters' Questions
At the Samsung Ho-Am Prize award ceremony held on the 31st, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and Samsung executives made an appearance in person. Vice Chairman Jeon Young-hyun, recently appointed as the head of the DS (semiconductor) division, also attended and expressed his commitment to the semiconductor business.
Chairman Lee Jae-yong arrived at the Shilla Hotel around 3:50 PM, 10 minutes before the start of the '34th Samsung Ho-Am Prize Award Ceremony.' As in the previous year, he entered the venue directly without any special remarks. Chairman Lee has personally overseen the Ho-Am Prize ceremony for three consecutive years since 2022, attending for the second year since his inauguration as chairman. This reflects his continuation of the founding philosophy of 'Talent First' and 'Companionship' through donations to the Ho-Am Foundation.
Former Leeum Museum Director Hong Ra-hee, Hotel Shilla President Lee Boo-jin, and Samsung C&T President Lee Seo-hyun, among the Samsung family members, did not attend.

The executive team included Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman and head of Samsung Electronics' DX (Device eXperience) division; Jeon Young-hyun, Vice Chairman and head of Samsung Electronics' DS (semiconductor) division; former Samsung Electronics Chairman Kim Ki-nam; Kyung Kye-hyun, President and head of the Future Strategy Office; Choi Joo-sun, President of Samsung Display; Choi Yoon-ho, President of Samsung SDI; Jang Deok-hyun, President of Samsung Electro-Mechanics; John Rim, President of Samsung Biologics; Oh Se-chul, President of Samsung C&T; and Hong Won-hak, President of Samsung Life Insurance, among about 50 others.
When asked by reporters about which business Vice Chairman Jeon Young-hyun is focusing on most, he replied, "I am overseeing various areas broadly."
Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee briefly responded to questions about plans for M&A or joint ventures this year by saying, "I will work hard. I will do well."
Mobile Experience (MX) Business Division Head Roh Tae-moon, regarding the Galaxy Unpacked event to be held in Paris, France, this July, said, "Thank you for your interest," and added, "Please wait a little longer."

Meanwhile, the Samsung Ho-Am Prize was established in 1990 by the late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee to honor the late founder Lee Byung-chul’s philosophy of 'Talent First' and social contribution spirit by recognizing individuals who have made outstanding achievements in academia, arts, social development, and the promotion of human welfare. Up to the 34th award ceremony this year, a total of 176 recipients have been awarded prize money amounting to 34.3 billion KRW.
This year’s Ho-Am Prize recipients are ▲ Science Award in Chemistry and Life Sciences: Hye-ran Darwin (55), Professor at New York University, USA ▲ Science Award in Physics and Mathematics: the late Nam Se-woo (54), Researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA ▲ Engineering Award: Lee Soo-in (44), Professor at the University of Washington, USA ▲ Medicine Award: Peter Park (53), Professor at Harvard Medical School, USA ▲ Arts Award: Han Kang (54), Novelist ▲ Social Service Award: Sister Geraldine Ryan (76). Each recipient received a certificate, a medal, and prize money of 300 million KRW, totaling 1.8 billion KRW across all categories.
The award ceremony began at 4 PM, followed by a dinner and congratulatory performances. The dinner featured a congratulatory performance by pansori master Chaesu-jeong and pianist Cho Seong-jin, who won the Ho-Am Prize in the Arts category last year.
