240 Billion KRW Invested in Geochang, Gyeongnam to Complete 3-Year Construction
Facilities Established for Industrial Workforce Training and New Product Quality Testing
The Korea Elevator Safety Agency (KoELSA) opened the 'Elevator Industry Complex Hall,' a key facility of the elevator hub city development project, in Geochang, Gyeongnam, on the 30th.
The Elevator Industry Complex Hall is a facility for training elevator engineers, supporting new product research and development, and manufacturing quality testing equipment. The Korea Elevator Safety Agency took the lead in its construction. With a budget of 24 billion KRW from national and local funds, construction began in May 2021 and took three years to complete.
On May 30, about 150 people attended the opening ceremony held at the main auditorium of the 'Elevator Industry Complex Hall' in Geochang, Gyeongnam, including Kim Yong-gyun, Director of Safety Prevention Policy at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Lee Yong-pyo, Chairman of the Korea Elevator Safety Corporation, and Gu In-mo, Mayor of Geochang County.
The Elevator Industry Complex Hall is a three-story building with a total floor area of 4,363㎡. It includes a large auditorium that can accommodate about 400 people, classrooms, practice rooms, and conference rooms, as well as three elevator practice towers (MRL, MR, hydraulic) and a practice escalator. It also has a dormitory and a cafeteria that can accommodate about 60 people.
Currently, the Korea Elevator Safety Agency is constructing a new 125-meter-high elevator test tower alongside the Elevator Industry Complex Hall. Once completed, this facility is expected to establish the foundation for leading the global elevator industry and enhance the status of Geochang as an elevator hub city.
About 150 people attended the opening ceremony held in the auditorium of the Industry Complex Hall, including Kim Yong-gyun, Director of the Safety Prevention Policy Office at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety; Lee Yong-pyo, Chairman of the Korea Elevator Safety Agency; and Gu In-mo, Mayor of Geochang County. Director Kim said, "A new starting point has been created to lead the world’s seventh-largest elevator powerhouse with approximately 840,000 units in operation," adding, "We expect the Elevator Industry Complex Hall to play a significant role in becoming the center of the global elevator industry."
Chairman Lee also stated, "The Elevator Industry Complex Hall will be a new cornerstone for the development of the elevator industry," and added, "It will take on a core role in the elevator hub city, including training excellent industrial workforce, new product research and development, and quality testing."
