Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will offer various humanities programs themed around Greek mythology, movies, humanities, and ecology at three district-run libraries until October.
On the 31st, Nam-gu announced, "In the '2024 Humanities on the Road' and 'Wisdom School' contests hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service, the district-run libraries?Munhwa Information Library, Youth Library, and Hyochon Eoullim Library?were each selected," adding, "Diverse programs will be conducted starting in June."
First, the Youth Library will operate a humanities lecture and exploration program based on movies for two months from June 25 to August 27.
Under the theme "Scenes of Humanities Loved by Movies," the program will be held every Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for a total of 10 sessions.
Participants will have the opportunity to discover their own life philosophy by examining the journeys of movie protagonists and reinterpret the meaning of life through history, philosophy, literature, architecture, art, space, and travel featured in movie themes.
Recruitment for participants will begin on June 10, with a capacity of 30 people.
In July, Munhwa Information Library will offer a university-level humanities lecture program titled "Philosophizing with Greek Mythology," focusing on Greek mythology.
The program will run 12 sessions every Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. from July 5 to September 20, with Kim Eun-ju, a former professor in the Department of Philosophy at Chonnam National University, as the lecturer.
Through stories created by the ancient Greeks, who had a human-centered way of thinking, participants can engage in serious reflection on life. Recruitment for 30 participants will begin on June 17.
Hyochon Eoullim Library will provide the program "Beyond Humanities to Human Ecology" from August 23 to October 25.
This program aims to share various stories on ecology and the environment and will be held every Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. over 10 sessions.
It plans to explore ecological living for people and the planet through approaches to forests, trees, and flowers.
The program will recruit 25 participants, with applications expected to open in early August.
