Glocal Future Education Expo Draws Attention at Jeonnam Education Hall

The Jeonnam Education Pavilion at the ‘2024 Korea Glocal Future Education Expo’ is attracting the attention of visitors.

Since the 29th, the Jeonnam Education Pavilion at the Glocal Future Education Expo held at the Yeosu World Expo Center was established to address the crises facing Jeonnam education and to find solutions.

More than 3,500 people have visited this pavilion in the two days following the opening, where the direction of future education is presented through a 10-minute video on a large 38.5m×6m LED monitor.

The video, titled ‘Local Becomes Global,’ is composed of three parts: ▲The Place Where I Live ▲Symbiotic Education with the Community ▲Opening the Future Together.

It depicts the future education of Jeonnam overcoming crises such as regional extinction due to declining school-age population, climate crisis, and educational disparities, through ‘inclusion’ embracing diverse cultures and symbiotic education based on Jeonnam’s ‘義 (Ui).’ These children grow up in Jeonnam’s mountains, fields, rivers, and seas.

Symbiotic education is achieved through ‘coexistence’ with the local community and the world, and ‘connection’ and ‘collaboration’ from kindergarten and elementary schools to universities and industries.

The video’s most moving point is its portrayal of diverse career paths for students with migration backgrounds, the establishment of a Jeonnam-type educational autonomy through governance of the Jeonnam education ecosystem, and regional talent retention through cooperation with local governments.

Superintendent of Education Kim Dae-jung said, “This video strengthens the resolve of the educational community to overcome the crisis in Jeonnam education and realize Glocal K-Edu. We will do our best to realize symbiotic education where Jeonnam’s narrative becomes global from birth to settlement, and the future education of Jeonnam.”
