100th Anniversary of Korean Original Children's Songs
'Nursery Rhymes Told by the Elderly.' Icheon City, Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 31st that it will hold the '1st National Silver Nursery Rhyme Festival' at the Icheon Art Hall Grand Theater on the 5th of next month.
This event commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of 'Bandal,' the first original Korean nursery rhyme by teacher Yun Geuk-young. As living witnesses to the history of nursery rhymes who have endured the hardships of colonization, liberation, war, commercialization, and democratization, the elderly will return to the pure world of childhood innocence to reminisce about their youth and sing nursery rhymes in a cultural festival celebrating nursery rhyme culture.
A total of 50 teams applied from the 9th to the 23rd of last month, and the city selected 20 teams for the finals through a budget review on the 27th of that month.
Meanwhile, Icheon City operates a Nursery Rhyme History Museum where visitors can view the history of Korean nursery rhymes from the 1920s to the present in one place to inherit and develop the history of nursery rhymes. In addition, to promote and spread nursery rhyme culture, the city runs the Seohee Choir, offers nursery rhyme classes, visiting nursery rhyme schools, and the National Chick Creative Nursery Rhyme Festival, thereby enhancing its status as a 'Nursery Rhyme City.'
