"I am innocent." Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stated on the 30th (local time) regarding the guilty verdict on all 34 charges in the 'hush money for sexual misconduct' trial, "The real judgment will be made by the people on November 5th (in the presidential election)."
According to CNN, after the jury's verdict that day, former President Trump said in front of the New York Manhattan Criminal Court, "This is a disgraceful act and a rigged trial by a corrupt judge."
Emphasizing that the real judgment will come in the November election, former President Trump raised his voice, saying, "Everyone knows what happened here. We did nothing wrong. I will fight for this country. I will fight for the Constitution."
He continued, "Our entire country is going to hell. All of this was done by the Biden administration to hurt their political opponents," adding, "We will fight until the end and we will win."
Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House and a Republican who visited New York to support former President Trump, also condemned the verdict in a statement, saying, "Today is a shameful day in American history," and "This is purely a political decision, not a judicial act."
The jury, composed of 12 residents of Manhattan, New York, after concluding the trial at the New York Manhattan Criminal Court that afternoon, found former President Trump guilty on all 34 criminal charges. As a result, former President Trump became the first former president in U.S. history to be convicted in a criminal trial. Sentencing based on the guilty verdict will take place on July 11, ahead of the Republican National Convention.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter), "There is only one way to keep former President Trump out of the White House Oval Office," adding, "At the ballot box."
