Special Prosecutor Law for Chaesangbyeong Rejected in National Assembly Re-vote... Final Abandonment
Gaeddal Criticize Representative Isujin Fiercely
The staunch supporters of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, known as 'Gaehyeok-ui Ddal' (Gaeddal), are pouring out harsh criticism toward independent lawmaker Lee Su-jin. The reason is that she was absent from the last plenary session of the 21st National Assembly, where the re-vote on the 'Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act' took place.
On the 30th, Chosun Ilbo reported, "Posts criticizing Lee were continuously uploaded on Lee Jae-myung's fan cafe 'Jaemyeongine Maeul'." According to the report, a user named A, who wrote a post titled 'Dongjak-eul Lee Su-jin Absence,' said, "It was disgusting to be with her, let's never see her again." Supporters also left comments such as 'enemy,' 'I can't believe such a person is in the Democratic Party,' 'Let's only deal with people,' 'Disappointed till the end,' 'Lee Su-jin did Lee Su-jin,' and 'Out forever.'
Earlier, the 'Special Prosecutor Appointment Act for the Investigation of Obstruction and Cover-up of the Death of a Marine on Duty' (Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act), on which President Yoon Seok-yeol exercised his veto power, was rejected and finally discarded at the plenary session of the National Assembly on the 28th.
For a bill on which veto power has been exercised to pass again in the National Assembly plenary session, a majority of the total members must be present, and two-thirds or more of the members present must approve. Out of a total of 296 members, two independents, Yoon Kwan-seok and Lee Su-jin, were absent during the re-vote. As a result, among 294 members present, 179 voted in favor, 111 against, and 4 invalid votes, leading to the bill's rejection. For the opposition urging the government to accept the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act, the favorable votes were crucial, but Lee's absence led Lee Jae-myung's supporters to criticize her.
On DC Inside's 'Lee Jae-myung Gallery,' criticism toward Lee Su-jin was also posted. One netizen wrote a post titled 'Lee Su-jin's absence is really shameless,' saying, "This vote is not even for Lee Jae-myung, is she sulking because she lost the nomination and not coming?" and criticized, "Because such a person got the badge, Dongjak-eul was lost."
Meanwhile, Lee Su-jin, who was formerly a member of the Democratic Party, left the party in February after her constituency, Seoul Dongjak-eul, was designated as a strategic nomination district. Although she was a member of the party's hardline freshman group 'Cheoreomhoe,' she targeted Lee Jae-myung after not receiving a nomination for the general election.
In February, she held a press conference at the National Assembly, saying, "Looking back, I always supported and helped Leader Lee at times of crisis and worked harder than anyone to make the current party leader," adding, "Now I regret it. I take full responsibility." She continued, "The reason why I regret it will soon be revealed," and added, "A considerable part has already been revealed, and because of that, not only I but many people have been hurt and lost hope."
