1 Dead and 13 Injured in Accident
National Forensic Service: "Not a Mechanical Defect in Vehicle"
A man in his 70s who struck pedestrians one after another at Yeonseo Market in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, causing a 9-vehicle pileup, has been referred to the prosecution.
The Eunpyeong Police Station in Seoul announced on the 30th that they had sent Mr. A (79) to the prosecution without detention on the charges of causing death and injury under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling on the 14th.

Mr. A is accused of hitting a total of eight vehicles, including passenger cars and motorcycles, while driving an SUV on a six-lane road near Yeonseo Market in Bulgwang-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, on February 29. One person died and 13 others were injured in the accident.
During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated that he "does not remember" and suggested that "there was a problem with the vehicle."
So far, the police have focused their investigation on the possibility that the accident was caused by Mr. A's negligence, based on the National Forensic Service's inspection results, which found no mechanical defects in the accident vehicle.
