Choo Kyung-ho "We Must Unite to Prevent Parliamentary Dictatorship"
Hwang Woo-yeo "We Must Never Forget the Spirit of Seonminhudang"
Ttolttol!
Let's unite, let's unite, let's unite!
When Chu Kyung-ho, the floor leader of the People Power Party, led a chant for unity, the lawmakers responded by calling to unite. The People Power Party lawmakers, who held a 1-night, 2-day workshop as their first party event since the opening of the National Assembly, pledged to unite wholeheartedly to block the legislative dominance of the major opposition party. Voices were also raised to become a party that the people can trust by building a livelihood-oriented party and a competent policy party.
At the party workshop held on the 30th in Cheonan, Chungnam, Floor Leader Chu said, "The most important topic is unity and cohesion. Simply put, we must unite tightly," adding, "If we do not unite tightly, the legislative activities and national governance we desire cannot proceed properly." He continued, "From today, the first day, until the last day of the 22nd National Assembly, let us never forget the spirit of unity, cohesion, and tight solidarity," emphasizing, "We must block the legislative rampage of the major opposition party and the possible parliamentary dictatorship with that spirit."
Floor Leader Chu said, "The people have really given us a harsh scolding," and "Remembering that, we must build a party that the people can trust." He added, "That path will not be easy and there will be many more difficult tasks," and "Although we are outnumbered, we can definitely win in the competition of capability against the major opposition party." This emphasized the workshop slogan, 'People's empathy, livelihood party, competent policy party.'
As Floor Leader Chu emphasized 'tight unity,' all 108 elected members wore white dress shirts and listened to the party leadership in a united manner. First-term lawmakers entering the National Assembly for the first time applauded senior lawmakers, and senior lawmakers also applauded the first-term lawmakers.
Hwang Woo-yeo, the party's emergency committee chairman, also attended the workshop and said, "Although 108 seats are called a minority party, it is actually a large number," and "We are also the ruling party, with the president behind us and all government agencies alongside us, so we are truly a strong party and must not lose courage or strength." He added, "Despite various circumstances that prevented the 21st National Assembly senior lawmakers from uniting at the last plenary session of the 21st National Assembly, they firmly united and moved the people, and we must carry on that legacy," emphasizing, "We can only be strong and steadfast when we are a party with the people, so we must never forget the spirit of 'people first, party later.'"
Afterwards, the lawmakers will listen to lectures by Kim Young-joo, professor of Information Security at Seoul Women's University; In Myung-jin, former emergency committee chairman of the Liberty Korea Party; and Kwon Young-se, a lawmaker who served as the first Minister of Unification under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration. After dinner, subgroup discussions will be held by seniority and region to discuss various party issues such as party innovation plans following the general election defeat and the party convention to elect the next party leader. On the morning of the 31st, a free discussion will be held focusing on legislative tasks prepared by the party policy committee, and the results will be adopted in a resolution. The 'first party-initiated bill' to be proposed in the 22nd National Assembly is also expected to be unveiled that day. There is also a possibility that ministers, vice ministers, and key personnel from the presidential office will attend the workshop. Since the launch of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, the annual 1-night, 2-day lawmakers' retreat has been attended by President Yoon Suk-yeol, ministers, vice ministers, and senior presidential office officials.
