Namdong-gu, Incheon announced on the 30th that it has introduced a small-scale stormwater inlet dredging vehicle for the first time among basic local governments in the Incheon area to prevent flooding on side roads.
According to the district, narrow side roads and alleyways have been difficult for large dredging vehicles over 17 tons to access, so workers had to manually remove soil and debris accumulated in stormwater inlets using shovels and other tools.
On the other hand, the newly introduced small stormwater inlet dredging vehicle weighs 2.5 tons, making it suitable for dredging stormwater inlets and sewer pipes in narrow alleyways. It uses a mechanical dredging method with powerful suction to thoroughly clean contaminants inside the stormwater inlets.
The daily work capacity is about 80 to 100 stormwater inlets, which is significantly higher compared to the approximately 10 inlets cleaned manually before.
The introduction of the small stormwater inlet dredging vehicle to prevent flooding in alleyways is the first case in Incheon. Namdong-gu recently conducted a demonstration for efficient dredging work ahead of the rainy season.
The district expects that by removing contaminants from stormwater inlets in alleyways with this small dredging vehicle, proactive flood prevention will be possible, and plans to analyze its effectiveness and expand its use further in the future.
Park Jong-hyo, Mayor of Namdong-gu, said, "To prevent flooding during the upcoming rainy season, we will systematically inspect related facilities and promptly maintain them to create a safe Namdong-gu."
