Korean Reinsurance Building to Develop Approximately 20-Story Office Facility with Classical Concert Hall

On the 30th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government held the 1st Urban Planning Committee's authorized subcommittee meeting and announced that it had amended and approved the redevelopment plan for Susong Urban Maintenance-type Redevelopment District 1-7.

The Korean Reinsurance headquarters building in the 80 Susong-dong area, Jongno-gu, was completed in 1985. More than 38 years after its completion, issues such as building safety have been raised, and the internal facilities have also aged.

The current building has a total floor area of 39,357㎡, with 3 basement floors and 12 above-ground floors. After redevelopment, it will be changed to about 20 floors with a total floor area of 110,000㎡. It is planned to be allocated for office facilities, cultural and assembly facilities, and neighborhood living facilities.

A classical concert hall with a capacity of 500 seats (tentatively named Korea Chamber Hall) will be built underground. The Korea Chamber Hall is a medium-sized venue capable of hosting indoor chamber orchestra performances.

On the east side of the project site, a large-scale green space of 6,000㎡ will be introduced. It will be integrated with the adjacent Susong Park and open green spaces to create a resting area within the city.

An underground road connecting Jongno-gu Office (Susong District 1-3) and the site will also be newly constructed. The pedestrian environment will be improved so that citizens using the concert hall and Jogyesa Temple can access it from Gwanghwamun Station through an underground connecting passage.
